For me.. CP
but that is just because I'm a manual only type of guy.

I want to say CP just because it doesn't have a manual transmission. I don't have any experience with the auto, but if it's acceptable/good, then definitely NP.

Decent Price : Depending on history
On a side note, thanks for reminding me why you never order/buy a BMW with anything but black interior...they don't age well and all the shades of grey/tan don't stay the same color over time.

Wow didn't realize these could be had for less than $20k.

As a former 2002 owner, I'd say it's a fair price for the mileage. Definitely have a mechanic you trust do a PPI on the car, with a focus on the rear subframe, as this was a problem area on the E46 M3's. If it checks out I'd say go for it, I can't think of a more fun car or a sweeter engine you could buy for $18k, assuming you're willing to put in the time and money to maintain her. I gave mine plenty of TLC and she never gave me any problems!

Black interiors get hotter than lighter interiors. I have a Tit Silver 128i with a black interior and it gets far hotter inside than my Boston Green 325is with a tan interior ever got.
Going through AutoTrader looking at E39 5-series (I'm jonesing for one as a DD - the depreciation curve is optimal right now), the black interiors generally look more aged than the lighter ones.

I would avoid the SMG transmission like the plague.
Definitely do the PPI and make sure the dealer fixes all of the problems that come up. You can search through my posting history for my chronicling of my M3 search you will find a bunch of good tips there.

Don't be scared of a higher mileage M3, actually, I'd PREFER a higher mileage M3. Mine had 130k+ and ran like a god damn TOP. You save the depreciation and 99% of times if anything were to fail, it would be replaced by then.
I bought mine for 12k, TWELVE THOUSAND for an E46 M3. Don't be scared!

As long as the price is right, why not ;)
